Why we wrote the LEDA Guide

The LEDA Guide is an information system for the data types and algorithms included in LEDA.

Goals:

  • Provide additional information and examples on the data types and algorithms.
  • Help developers to choose the best data type for their needs.
  • Improve efficiency and reliability of programs
  • Shorten development time.

To reach this goal we tried to answer the following questions:

  • What is this data type good for ? Why is it included?
  • What is special about this data type ?
  • Where can this data type be used?
  • Where should this data type be used?
  • How should this data type be used?
  • When is it better to use another data type ? And which?

The LEDA Guide does not want ot replace the LEDA Manual.

It provides information that should highlight important features of each data type . Once the decision for a particular data type is made, a complete description of how to create instances of the data type and all possible operations can be found in the manual. The code examples of the LEDA guide should compile on most system/compiler combinations. If you encounter any problems or errors, please contact the author.

A comprehensive and readable source for more details on LEDA can be found in the LEDA Book by Prof. Kurt Mehlhorn and Prof. Stefan Näher.
